Toronto played host to the 16th edition of the Diageo World Class global finals this week, where 51 bartenders from across the world competed for one of the most respected titles in hospitality. Emerging on top was Norway’s Felice Capasso, who was crowned World Class Bartender of the Year 2025.

Capasso, who runs Nedre Løkka in Oslo and is the founder of Sesto Senso Academy, impressed judges with a combination of technique, storytelling, and unexpected creativity. His serves reflected both technical precision and emotional resonance, often weaving personal and cultural narratives into the glass.

Highlights included a Johnnie Walker Black Label reimagining of gin-led classics, such as Top Notes – a whisky twist on the French 75. For the Don Julio 1942 challenge, he paired tequila with an apéritif inspired by original artwork, while The Singleton round saw him create a custom record sleeve nodding to That’s Amore, accompanying his cocktail Between Us in a multi-sensory showcase.

As winner, Capasso will take on a global ambassadorial role with Diageo, traveling to leading markets, guest bartending at top venues, and mentoring bartenders around the world.

Reflecting on his win, Capasso said:
“Winning World Class is not just a dream come true – it’s the result of years of persistence and passion. I see this not only as a personal milestone, but as a chance to promote education and inspire bartenders everywhere.”

The judging panel featured some of the industry’s most influential names, including Monica Berg (Tayēr + Elementary, London), Ago Perrone (The Connaught Bar, London), and Eric Van Beek (Handshake Speakeasy, Mexico City). Together, they underscored the growing global impact of the competition, which has supported more than 450,000 bartenders since its inception.

Hats off to Navjot Singh from Lair, who represented India at World Class 2025 with talent and dedication. His journey is a reminder that the Indian bartending community is stronger than ever – and right behind him every step of the way.

Felice Capasso now joins an esteemed group of bartenders whose careers have been propelled onto the world stage through World Class – a platform that continues to shape the future of cocktail culture.
